Online Mainline – Workshop Report

Last week Screen Cultures hosted its inaugural research events – Animation Explosion and The Online Mainline.

I was only able to attend the second event, The Online Mainline, where I gave a paper about promotional culture and social media which grew out of a knowledge transfer project I ran last year.

Simon, Oliver and I were coming to this event straight off the back of our visit to Transforming Audiences 3; as great as TA3 had been it was nice to be working in a small group, on focussed topic areas and with no parallel sessions. There was a really good collegiate atmosphere at the event, and I felt we had a good opportunity to get into the papers in some depth.

I think the focus on topics was particularly useful, particularly in the morning session when panels really fitted together well, and there were also key links between panels. Colleagues at the event seemed to also feel this was a strength of the event, and I hope we’ll be running more of these sessions in the future.
